As individuals, we all have preferences. And these preferences, in a way, define who we are. They dictate our taste, our choices, and our personal style – they make us unique!
One piece of advice I have for my readers, is to allow your preferences to change! Although our personal taste is closely linked to our identity, we never want to tie ourselves to one specific style for life – it can create stress as you design your home and easily begins to feel inauthentic. The goal is for your home to reflect who you are and what you value as an individual. The only way for this to accurately reflect you over the span of time is for you to allow your personal taste and preferences to flex as you yourself change.
I have loved the process of continuing to adapt my personal style as an interior designer, and I would love to share with you all some of my current favorite design choices!
Paint color: Benjamin Moore’s “Classic Gray” or Sherwin Williams’ “Gossamer Veil.”
Textile: Linen, Belgian linen, or anything else in that family!
Material: I love tile! They have such variation in color, shape, and texture!
Flooring: Something about wood is so soft and comforting. On the floor, an accent wall, beams, or a vintage piece of furniture. It always adds the character element I am looking for.
Style: I do like different “styles,” but I want these elements: comfortable, casual, clean, mid-tones.
Window treatments: I love a good woven shade, mixed with a linen drape.
I hope you got to know me a little more as a designer. I am totally not limited to these above preferences, and they may change in a couple months as something else catches my eye! Which words would you use to describe your personal style? Which colors, textures, and themes do you find yourself falling in love with over and over again? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
